ABOUT LEXI YOUNG PECK

I have always been an Oregon native, raised in a rural town called Boring, not too far from Portland. I already can hear the questions, and even though while we were living there the town put in their first stop light, it was not boring! I grew up with my five siblings, parents, and my grandpa, on 2.5 acres filled with animals and freedom to explore. My husband, Josh,  is from the East Coast and when I met him in 2010 I no longer lived in the country, instead I was enjoying the allure of the city. We were married in July of 2012 and had our first child, Vivian, in January of 2015. The first 5 years of our marriage were a refining fire. We were very young and made choices that almost pulled us apart. We learned what it means to be a team, to trust, to be honest, and to work together to create the life we wanted. I will be forever grateful that we found our way back to each other.

In September of 2017 we welcomed our son, Xander! We also began playing with the idea of having more room to roam and that perhaps there might be a farm in our future. As a stepping stone we purchased and renovated our first home and began to plan, learn, and dream about what it would look like for our family to eventually become farmers. Gleaning from the experience of others was useful to a point, but we decided the only way to truly learn was to embrace the risks and our own ignorance and take the plunge. In early 2019 we began looking for a farm, and trying for another child. This time pregnancy was a very slow process, but finally got a positive test in June of 2020! We also put in a last minute offer on a property that was a long shot, but decided to " see what happens." The following month I realized that my early pregnancy was slowly ending with a miscarriage, and the same day received a call that our offer was accepted for a farm an hour south of Portland, OR. July and August we packed up our small suburban home, and moved to our 23 acre dilapidated property September 1st 2020.

Renovations on our farmhouse began and the amount of life lived education we experienced within the first 3 months were arduous and extensive. Runaway cows, huge fires, unexpected baby calves, a repeatedly skunked dog, and many electric fence shocks are a few ‘opportunities for growth’ that come to mind. Stepping out into something that neither my husband nor I knew well was a massive leap of faith and trust.

Today we are still settling into our home and new life on the farm. We constantly encounter challenges, problems to solve and a whole lot of beauty and joy within the journey. Last year in July we welcomed our first farm baby, Lucille, with a beautiful home birth surrounded by loved ones! Baby number 4 will be arriving sometime near Thanksgiving and we are beyond thrilled! We fight to be courageous in our home and adventurous in our dreams. I am glad you are here, and I hope the glance into our story ignites within you a dream you perhaps thought could never happen, and gives you a nudge that maybe it might not be so impossible after all. Life is a journey, but that journey is made of daily incremental steps.
